Here are some progress shots of my new showreel containing 3D animation, motion graphics, robots, holograms, a bit of awesome thrown in too hopefully!
I wanted to do something a bit different with this showreel, creating a story around my work instead of the usual dull title indent. This should be complete in the next 1-2 weeks and here’s a few progress shots.

For some of my work from 2009/10 take a look below. My main software experience is Cinema4D, aftereffects, 3dsmax, Modo, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator.

This showreel uses a flash based player, if you can’t see any video then you haven’t got flash installed (and I recommend you do) go here.

What was interesting was every element had to be animated, even if it was slightly “jiggling” so as to promote the 3D holographic effect. Much fun!

The pen was created and animated in Modo along with aftereffects for comping the elements together.

Here is the an early example of the animation using the Dreamoc unit :

I was responsible for the modelling, texturing and rendering of the 3D model using HDRI lighting to match the car with the background. Weapons of choice were 3dsmax and Vray to produce the animations.

3D Illustration of the infamous terror created by H.P. Lovecraft.

“They were not composed altogether of flesh and blood. They had shape…but that shape was not made of matter. When the stars were right, They could plunge from world to world through the sky; but when the stars were wrong, They could not live. But although They no longer lived, They would never really die. They all lay in stone houses in Their great city of R’lyeh, preserved by the spells of mighty Cthulhu for a glorious resurrection when the stars and the earth might once more be ready for Them.”

This is a stylistic exploration of the Cthulhu myth created by H.P. Lovecraft. Also, I absolutely love octopuses and wanted to see how organic shapes would look given the hard rigid 3D treatment. I am currently getting some T-shirt designs together and some real nice Giclee prints created for posters, so watch this space!

Here are some more stylistic examples:

I created the 3D distributor engine part in 3dsmax and this model was integrated and developed into an XNA application by Red Badger Consulting

The mobile market and especially the smart phones such as the Windows Phone 7, iphone etc is a very exciting growth area, with the technology taking huge leaps with each generation. I look forward to pushing the 3D capabilities in future projects.

Fast forward to 58 seconds to see the 3D in action. I used 3dsmax for the 3D modelling and some basic coding in xaml using Microsoft Blend.

An animated visualisation for Mclaren to explain how data is communicated between the car, HQ in Woking England and the on track team. This was used at the Worldwide Partner Conference for Microsoft in 2008 as presentation material.

I had a lot of fun with this project as we wanted a “tronesque” look to the whole presentation as the main message was about data and how it is transported around. It was all created using 3dsmax , Vray & Aftereffects.
